Shattered Pack Delay…

Heya, everyone!

It kills me to do this, but I had to delay the release of Shattered Pack.

200-4

For those of you who haven’t been following along with my life and the insanity it has been (via facebook and instagram), in the last six months I’ve moved across the country, had a major, unforeseen shift in Ink Monster, and–most importantly–had a baby!

Meet Isabella Ray. She’ll be 7 months old on the 22nd, and she’s the bee’s knees. I swear. So much personality already–100% her father’s daughter. Outgoing. Shockingly smart. Strong. Amazing. Perfect. And not sleeping at night anymore…

But let’s back up a step. You see, when I found out I was pregnant, I delayed the Shattered Pack release. It was going to be coming out right as I had my baby, and I wasn’t going to be focused on finishing the book and making it awesome. So I pushed the release date back a few months. But I fully planned on finishing the book BEFORE she was born to make sure that I didn’t miss that date. But then she came early…

After losing Annabelle, almost losing Isabella was SO SCARY. Those first few weeks were tough, but my girl is strong! She’s doing fantastic. More than. At six months, she has EIGHT teeth, crawls, is so frustrated that she can’t walk yet, and says two words–momom or mom (instead of mama) and yummy. Girlfriend loves to eat. Like says yummy and grabs at the pictures of food in magazines. LOL!

But I’ve had a book to finish. I’d been slowly working on it since she was a couple weeks old (#writingaddict), and the last couple weeks I had my mother-in-law here to help out while I revised like mad woman. It was going to take everyone helping out for me to get it done in time, but I had a game plan. I was golden. Everything was set.

And then Isabella decided to get SIX teeth and stop sleeping. Cut to me rocking her ALL NIGHT LONG.

On day seven of no sleep and trying to make the words on the page coherent, I had to call it. I wasn’t going to make the deadline. At least not with a book I was happy with. And that wasn’t fair to anyone.

After I let myself be sad about it, I pulled on my big-girl panties and delayed the release a few months. Izzie is sleeping again at night now, and I have a second to breathe and really make sure this bookย  is amazing. I don’t know why, but this has been the hardest book to write. Like for reals. I usually ditch about 10-15K words of a book during rewrites and edits. I’m not done and I’ve already ditched over 40K! I’ve just been waiting so long to write a Meredith book that I want to make sure it’s perfect. But y’all, it’s finally all coming together. I love that feeling. When the pieces just fit and you’re feeling like the story is working in the best possible way.

There’s action. Battles with a gnarly fey monster. Some lovey stuff. Who am I kidding–LOTS OF LOVEY STUFF. Donovan…

200-2

So, I had all these plans for discounts on Alpha Girl books and a TON of giveaways. So why waste them?! November will still be Alpha Girl month at Ink Monster, and–as long as my editor, Lola, approves–I’ll give a sneak peek of a chapter or two that is going to make the cut. I’ve also just reformatted, edited, and changed the layout for Becoming Alpha‘s paperback edition. So, I’ll be giving away some signed ones! Stay tuned!

I hope you guys aren’t totally disappointed. I promise, March is going to be amazing. Giveaways. Signed newly reformatted and edited paperbacks of the rest of the series! (The new layout is AH-MAY-ZING!) And a sneak peek at the next Tessa + Dastien book, coming at you next fall. Plus, a peek at a new series I’m working on. It’s going to be epic!

Until then, this mama is going to be working away, and hopefully catching up on some zzzzzzzzzz’s.

xoxo,

Aileen aka The Sleepy Mama

I can’t lie, I’m super disappointed about the delay! But as a single mom with a now 10 yr old boy, I totally get it and can truly appreciate your wanting it to be right, Meredith does deserve it after all. I just reread the whole series for the 5th time, something I’ve never done before, just getting ready for November. Take care of your angel, grab a shower and some sleep while you can, and I will just be waiting for that email to pop up saying my book has been delivered off the pre-order

Tammi — I bow down to single moms. Seriously don’t know how you do it. And five times is such a compliment! Thank you for your support! So sorry for the delay. I finally took a shower today (first time in longer than I’d care to admit…) and she slept last night. Kind of feels like winning the lotto. LOL! ๐Ÿ˜‰ <3

    Hi Aileen!
Thank God you and Isabella are doing well. That’s the most important thing in the world and I’m sure your hubby agrees.
Of course I’m anxious to read Meredith’s story. I love her character. Being a huge fan (and a writer) I understand your desire to not release the story until you are satisfied with it. Just remember, on that day, there will be cheers heard round the world when our pre-orders are filled.
VERY glad to know you’re not finished with the series. I’m not ready to let them go yet. Also look forward to reading your new series.
Take care of yourself. Sending Hugs and Prayers, Sue

    • Aileen Erin says:

Thanks so much, Sue! Isabella is a sweetheart, even when cutting so many teeth at once. My poor girl. I’m hoping she gets a break soon. Why is she in such a rush to grow up?! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hoping all is going well with you! <3

    Hey,
I too, was really excited about shattered pack, but it will come when it is right. I am VERY happy to hear about your bundle of joy. A mother of 4 here (5 yrs to 16 yrs). I will keep you and your family in my prayers and look forward to the new book whenever it is ready. After all, good things are worth waiting for, babies and books, what could be better. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Aileen Erin says:

Thank you for your support, Pam! I’m hoping sleep finds me again soon! But I’m sure as a mom of two you know it might take a while. Crossing my fingers! ๐Ÿ˜‰ But she’s worth it. Babies and books! That’s my life right now. Loving it. Even when feeling like a zombie. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Ashley Flowers says:

She’s perfect ๐Ÿ™‚ Super happy for you.

  5. Avila Gavieres says:

    Hey Aileen,
Finally finished your last book. I stopped reading it in-between because of school. Had to focus in my classes to pass with flying colors for spring semester which is my last one and I graduate. I am not a mom, but I was raised by a single mother, along with my grandparents (her parents). And I am proud to say she did a bang up job of being a great mom and being there for me. I wasn’t always a rebel while growing up, but when I turned 21 I was. Lol. What I’m trying to say is that family ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS comes first and life comes second. Treat it well. And have fun all the time. Life’s little moments are appreciated even with your special little ones.
    Take care & God Bless.
    Sincerely,
    Jay Jay.
    (just a local fan)

I love your books. I too was disappointed Shattered Pack was delayed. Thank you for explaining and so delighted for you on your baby. Congratulations. When you prioritize important things like family everything else will fall into place. No-one wants a poor quality story despite making the deadline and it will be worth the wait. Looking forward too to your new series. Have to say I loved Claudia and Lucas’s story too and hope to hear more about them in the future. Hope you catch up on your zzzzz.

  8. Brenda says:

So is Shattered Pack available now? If I buy will it download? Or do we still have to wait till its release date of March?
Thanks! I love this series I am dying to get the next book!

  9. Nancy Burgess says:

    Congratulations she’s beautiful.

  10. Angela says:
