All The Things I’ll Do After Quanta Rewind

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

I’ve been majorly MIA the past few weeks (months?!) and Quanta Rewind is to blame. Lately, I spend all day every day at my desk, working on the draft and listening to ambient arctic noise

As you can imagine, I’m an inch away from a total breakdown.

The good news is the draft is juuuuust about finished. Bloggers will be able to download it on NetGalley at the beginning of April, and we’re still signing up for the blog tour, so hop on if you’d love to host!

I’ve survived thus far by consuming near-lethal quantities of Cherry Coke and dreaming of all the fun I’ll have when this deadline is in the bag. Thought I’d share a few of the things I CANNOT WAIT TO DO after Quanta Rewind is off my desk:

1) Shower

Hygiene is the first item to go when the deadlines hit. My hair looks like I’ve been moisturizing with Crisco, and I need to get back on the cleanliness schedule of a normal human person.

2) Play Breath of the Wild for 375603560q9479345 hours

It has come to my attention that I’m a grown adult and shouldn’t get sucked into buying a $300 console plus accessories just to have a Zelda machine… But then again OPEN WORLD ZELDA WITH COOKING AND WHO CARES ABOUT MONEY. I’m going to hunt down a Switch and spend a solid week gathering mushrooms. That’s just how I roll.

3) Catch up on dramas

I’m ridiculously behind on my drama watching. I got sidetracked with all this work (lame!) so I stalled out on Jealousy Incarnate, The Princess Weiyoung, and Hwarang, but I’m determined to catch up. PLUS, I have Goblin on my to-watch list and I can already anticipate the binge because it’s supposed to be the best.

4) Plan my next move

I’ve been in America way too long, and it’s time to skip out before all the visa regulations get crazy. Maybe back to Thailand after the burning season is over??? Or Bali?! Haven’t decided yet, but I’ll finally have time to plan.

5) Start my new series!!!

I am SO EXCITED to start a new project. The first book in my new series comes out on Halloween and I can’t wait to dig into all the early stage research and worldbuilding. It’s been killing me to have this one on the back burner. More updates (and preorder links!) coming soon, but this one is about WITCHES AND CAKES (my two favorite things in life) and I hope you love the new world as much as I do!

Catch you on the flipside of this deadline!!!

Monday in LA!

Monday, August 15th, 2016

It’s still Monday (in my timezone) and I’m sneaking in a blog before I turn into a pumpkin. Today, I’m coming at you from the rolling hills of Los Angeles, where I’ll be hanging up my passport for a year or so.

1. Los Angeles

I’m so excited I get to stay in LA! The food is crazy delicious, I can get involved in any class/activity imaginable, and I have so many new cafes to explore. It’s such a cool city, I have zero worries about getting bored… But I am kind of apprehensive about this whole parallel parking thing. I remember the last time I parallel parked (Five-ish years ago in Pittsburgh?) and gave my passengers a solid twenty minutes of laughter. But that was before I had a back-up camera, so maybe now it will be okay??? (crossing fingers)

I'm Single Nobody Loves Me

2. Wait But Hi

I ventured out into society over the weekend (THE SHOCK) because I got chosen to join one of the Wait But Why meetups taking place in LA. (I’ve mentioned the blog before.) Unfortunately, Tim Urban did not show up in person (so I couldn’t propose marriage yet), but I met 15 super interesting people and we shared a lot of wine and great conversation. Writers, directors, film editors, divers, MBAs, actors, musicians–such an awesome and eclectic group!

Wait But Why New Post Every Sometimes

3. Tessa Dare

Melissa at LilyElement got me started on Tessa Dare, and Tessa is yet another reason I’m excited about LA–she’s giving a talk at the local RWA chapter next weekend. How lucky am I?? Her Spindle Cove novella Beauty and the Blacksmith is free for a few more days, so check it out if you’ve never read her before. Her stories are always cute and hilarious with satisfying HEAs. They make me feel so cozy and happy!

4. No Man’s Sky

These are the times I’m bummed to be a Mac owner. The reviews are coming out for No Man’s Sky and people are saying it has a boring resource gathering aspect, but I’m sitting over here like I LOVE BORING RESOURCE MANAGEMENT GAMES AND I WANT TO NAME PLANTS. Since I can’t just pop out and buy a gaming PC, I’m killing time until the Mac port release by watching playthroughs on YouTube. I highly recommend Shirley Curry’s gaming channel. She’s a grandma who refers to her subscribers as “grandkids.” It’s TOO CUTE. “Oh no!” Shirley gasps. “That’s too far away. Oh no! I can’t go there. How far away is the planet?”

5. Book finished

Maybe I should’ve led with this, but QUANTA RESET IS FINISHED!!!

The file is on its way to be converted for Netgalley. YESSSSS!

I’m so excited to be done. It kind of came down to the wire with this deadline (it always seems to…) but I’m happy to share the story with you all and I hope you love it!

Another Exciting Monday…With Quanta Reset News!

Monday, August 1st, 2016

I’ve been a busy bumblebee these past few weeks. A million things are going on and it’s been rough trying to balance them all with the ridiculous amount of time I’ve spent in the orthodontist’s chair.

But now only one last follow-up appointment is left because:

Braces off 🎉 Braces off 🎉 Braces off 🎉 😀😀😀

A photo posted by Lola Dodge (@loladodge) on

I’m so happy!!! A friend told me that my teeth look perfect now—like American teeth. So I’m glad I can finally represent my country with my mouth? Also because:

2. It’s time to leave Thailand

It’s been fun. I’ve made friends, I’ve gotten my teeth tortured into shape, and I’ve eaten enough khao soi and coconut shakes to last a lifetime (or at least a few months). As much as I’ll miss Chiang Mai, I’ve had one too many massive cockroaches in my apartment the past few weeks and it’s time for a break from nature.

I’m just bummed that I won’t have time to see this movie. I’ve seen the trailer half a million times while sitting at the coworking space at the mall, and I feel called to share it with you all. It’s about a haunted classroom and it may be the best zombie film ever made:

3. Next stop: Los Angeles

I’m so excited to be heading back to LA! I get to hang with Aileen, finally meet the baby, and hopefully eat lots of donuts while I’m in town. I also get to reunite with The Nook—my #1 favorite working spot at Aileen’s house. Not sure if it’s weird to have a favorite spot in someone else’s home, but The Nook has a long list of fans—it’s just so cute and sunny!

4. Quanta

We’re signing up hosts for the Quanta Reset blog tour. Jump over to YA Bound if you’d like to join in on the fun : )

5. More Quanta

Aaaaand, hold tight for more Reset news. The book should be live on NetGalley by the end of the month, but subscribe to the Ink Monster Newsletter if you want to be the first to hear about it. You should definitely get on the list regardless, because I heard a rumor that Shattered Pack news is coming soon, too ; )

Not that I’m biased or anything, but Meredith’s story is awesome. You guys are going to love reading from her POV!

Summer Monday!

Monday, June 6th, 2016

It’s summer!!! Kind of. Right?

June in Thailand means it’s finally cooling down and we’re into the rainy season–so 95 degrees instead of 100+ every day, and lots of regular showers to keep the air clean. I’ve been bouncing around, I’m so happy. THE SKY IS BLUE AND LIFE IS WONDERFUL!

Other than the weather, here’s what’s up:

1. Revisions

Now that I can breathe, I’m back to work and revising a couple projects–one for me, and one for Ink Monster ; ) Quanta Reset is really coming along and our new team editor is amazing, so expect good things in September!

Quanta Reset by Lola Dodge, September 2016 | A Shadow Ravens Novel

2. America bound!

I’ll be back in America before Reset releases. I’ve loved my time in Thailand, but I’m looking forward to being on home soil for a while. I’ve been in Asia for most of the time since January 2012, when I first moved to Taiwan. I totally wasn’t planning to be abroad so long. So many bagels to eat to make up for lost time!

3. Reunion

My ten-year college reunion was this weekend and I missed it. But I didn’t really miss anything. I’m still close with my four closest friends from the good old class of 2006, and as much as it would be fun to see what everyone else has been up to, I’m okay with losing touch with acquaintances. Being abroad has definitely taught me that the important people make time for you, and you have to do the same. Otherwise, it’s okay to grow apart–there just isn’t time to stay friends with everyone. Plus, reunions are weird.

Class of 2006! They couldn't get rid of me if they tried.

Best of the class of 2006! They couldn’t get rid of me if they tried.

4. Niche

I backed Niche on Kickstarter and have been playing the alpha game–it is so cute and it’s exactly the kind of repetitive fun I like as a break from writing. I’ll let you all know when the final version goes live on Steam. Until then, I’ll be busy trying to breed purple tiger-striped antler babies.

Niche Tutorial Video from Philomena Schwab on Vimeo.

5. Critical K-pop

As always, the most important news comes last. EXO’s new album is coming out SOON. Can. Not. Wait. Must buy. Must dance. Must learn more Korean so I can sing along.

Happy Monday wherever you are!

My Quanta Reset Scrapbook

Monday, January 18th, 2016

It’s Monday morning in Chiang Mai and pigeons are trying to get into my bathroom. I think I’ve scared them off for now, but you’ll know if they succeed because my screams will be heard around the globe.

I’m in the process of plotting and drafting some different takes on Quanta Reset. This is the part where I know what’s happening, but I’m still working on how… Which is kinda important. To fix that, I’ve been doing a little brainstorming on Pinterest. I’ve pulled out a few images to share, but if you want to see the whole board, I’m going to keep adding to it.

(Also check out My Citadel Scrapbook!)

So here’s your sneak peak of what Quanta, Tair, and the other Ravens have been up to since the end of Book 2:

And potential SPOILER WARNING, so stop here if you haven’t read Cipher and Quanta yet.

Cozy Quanta

Quanta has updated her wardrobe. Lots of leggings and baggy sweaters these days.

I never ever thought I'd like you this much and I never planned to have you on my mind this often.

Quanta and Tair are… figuring it out? ; )

Nice DNA

We’re out of Nagi’s hands but back to Eva’s–so science is happening, but is that better or worse…?

Camp life is… Interesting. And very mobile.

It's not easy

Timeghosts = still around and getting a little annoying.

DNA tattoo

More helix tattoos…

good in glasses

Tair still looks good in glasses. And I still can’t find the perfect reference image for him. (So if anyone reading this wants to step up and send hot guy pics…)

On that note….

; )

If you’re as pumped for Quanta Reset as I am, and you happen to have a blog, don’t forget to sign up for the cover reveal on 2/16.

If you don’t have a blog, but still want to support our Shadow Ravens, then don’t forget to tell everyone you know (including baristas, waitstaff, teachers, and heads of state) that CIPHER is FREE and look out for our soon-to-come announcement on a Quanta price drop!

Hope you all have a wonderful, pigeon-free week wherever you are!
